Coolspotters connects brands socially
Posted by Joel under: Ideas; Web 2.0 .
I’m a sucker for signing up to every new Web 2.0 site that launches and never returning. However the newly launched Coolspotters site has the magic to be a popular social sites and one I will visit again. Started by a few ex-ESPN.com guys it’s a easy to use fantastic looking site. In the simplest terms its a database of public figures and the products they use. I got the concept right away and started contributing without realizing it. I was sucked in. Adding the Chargers, Qualcomm Stadium, LaDainian Tomlinson, a light bulb went on, I remembered Tomlinson recently shot a commercial for Campbell’s so I quickly “spotted” Chunky Soup to his profile. The connections was made.
This is a great opportunity for sponsors and advertisers to make a connection with a public figure or a even a team. I know brands will love the site, but will users find it useful? Time will tell. But in the bigger picture of Web 2.0 the site could become a visual search engine. Every celebrity, athlete, event picture now becomes product placement opportunity.
